Academic Advising Overview
Academic Advising is an opportunity for you to engage with faculty and staff in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) Department and to assist in identifying academic goals, developing educational plans, and maximizing your educational experience. If you have an assigned adviser, please check the specific instructions for making an appointment with that person below. If you do not have an assigned adviser or are interested in speaking with a BMB advisor about changing majors or minoring in one of our programs, please call 814-863-5487 to schedule an appointment.
Meet Our Advisors
Walk-In Advising Hours
Jenn Keefer and Amber Miller both provide walk-in advising hours as a service to our students. Walk-in advising is reserved for brief concerns that will take no longer than 10-15 minutes. If it becomes evident that you have more extensive questions or concerns than you realized, you will be asked to schedule a regular advising appointment.
In addition to an assigned BMB faculty adviser, first and second year students can also meet with Ms. Jennifer Keefer to discuss degree requirements, Schreyer plans, course selection, and other general advising topics. Please call 814-863-5487 to schedule an appointment with Jenn.
In addition, if you have questions about department specific forms or deadlines for the honors program, please see the honors section of our webpage.
Students interested in health professions are encouraged to reach out to the pre-health advisers in the Science Advising Center.
Petition requests for common petitions (ie move 3 for general education) can be entered though our online petition form. Requests to substitute non-BMB independent research credits in place of BMB 496 can be entered through this form. For any other petition requests, please attend walk-in advising or call 814-863-5487 to schedule an appointment to discuss your petition request.
The University has a number of resources to help students be successful in their academic and professional pursuits.
