The Department of Statistics has long fostered interdisciplinary research at the interface of statistics, astronomy and astrophysics, and the computational and data sciences. It boasts one of the world’s leading research groups in the statistical analysis of astronomical data, as evidenced by the Center for Astrostatistics. The Center for Astrostatistics has trained generations of astronomers in the statistical analysis of astronomical data by organizing annual summer schools and workshops.
