Because of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, not only did I get to focus on what I love for entire summer, but I also got a chance to learn new techniques that I will be able to take with me to graduate school and beyond.
The Department offers students the opportunity to perform undergraduate research and work with faculty on cutting-edge research projects. Approximately 80 undergraduates enroll in Independent Research each semester and gain valuable experience working in a lab.
Departmental Research Opportunities

Independent Research
Students have the opportunity to do research in a research lab under the mentorship of a BMB faculty member. In addition, students who engage in research for 3 semesters or 2 semesters plus a summer can write a thesis and apply for a certificate in research distinction (SCIRES).

Research Based Courses
A number of BMB courses integrate research projects into the course curriculum

First Year Research Experiences
BMB offers exciting opportunities for students to engage in early research experiences.

Resources
Penn state offers a number of resources to help students identify a research opportunity just for them.
