Undergraduate Student Organizations
At the Eberly College of Science, our focus is to support your journey toward academic success in an environment that also strengthens the overlap between what goes on in resident instruction and what takes place outside of the classroom. We encourage undergraduate students to explore our diversity-focused organizations, find friends with similar experiences, advocate for issues you care about, or discover an exciting extracurricular.
Undergraduate Research Experiences
PA Space Grant Consortium Research Internship
The WISER/MURE/FURP program offers first-year students across a variety of STEM disciplines a two-semester (spring and fall semesters of one calendar year) faculty mentored internship in a research laboratory at Penn State University Park. During the internship experience, students have the opportunity to collaborate with a research team, learn the language of research, and conduct experiments. Mentored by a faculty member, students are engaged in research activities that may include attending lab meetings, collecting and analyzing data, and working on high-tech instrumentation and software.
WISER: Women in Science and Engineering Research is open to all first-year students but focuses on supporting outstanding women interested in pursuing research on campus.
MURE: Minority Undergraduate Research Experience is available to underrepresented students of color (African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander) who are in their first-year, sophomore, or junior years.
FURP: First-year Undergraduate Research Program is available to all first-year students; those with economic hardship are encouraged to apply.

McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program, administered by the Office of Graduate Educational Equity, helps prepare students for doctoral study through the involvement in research and scholarly activities. By assisting in the academic and professional development of undergraduates, the program sponsors and supports student experiences that lay the foundation for a successful graduate school experience, such as fostering mentoring relationships, promoting undergraduate research, assisting with GRE preparation, and encouraging students to attend and present at conferences.
We offer one-on-one meetings to help you learn about all the ways our office can offer you guidance and support during your time at Eberly. Appointments can be scheduled using Starfish.
