Kaelonnah Darlich

Kaelonnah Darlich, a fourth-year majoring in biology, worked as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Marine Biologist Intern at the National Centers for Costal Ocean Science through the Chesapeake Research Consortium.

“This experience has strengthened my passion for marine conservation and shown me how collaborative science can help protect both coastal ecosystems and the communities that depend on them,” said Darlich.

Allyson Garcia, a fourth-year majoring in planetary science and astronomy and astronomy and astrophysics, spent her summer at the University of Florida doing a research internship.

“This summer, my project was “Modeling the Dusty Torus in NGC 3787,” where I studied the ring of dust that surrounds the supermassive black hole in the center of a distant galaxy called NGC 3783,” said Garcia.

Max Gerhart, a fourth-year student majoring in computational data science, spent his summer as a Soccer Analytics Intern with Philadelphia Union II.

“At the Philadelphia Union, I have been assigned to take ownership of the opponent scouting app — a tool that the coaches use to gain insights on opposing teams before games,” Gerhart said. “Within the app, I have included percentile rankings for metrics, radar charts, and other visuals to help our coaches understand our opponents.”

Ellen Jun

Ellen Jun, a second-year student majoring in medical microbiology and a Schreyer Honors College Scholar, spent part of her summer shadowing an intensive care unit through New York University’s Health Career Opportunity Program.

“It has been super insightful to see the team of doctors do rounds every day,” said Jun. “I've learned a lot about various medical conditions and how they are treated. The daily group lectures have also allowed me to connect with my peers shadowing different departments. This experience has been eye-opening, and it has solidified my desire to go into medicine.”

Anne Pallozzi, a second-year student majoring in biology, participated in the Summer Undergraduate Internship Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she conducted research in the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.

“I had an amazing time this summer conducting research at a top research institution where I was able to meet other students who share my aspirations and be introduced to world-renowned leaders in academia,” said Pallozzi. “At the end of the summer, I presented my findings to my peers and other faculty at the program's symposium.”

Hiya Patel and Nylah Jennings

Hiya Patel, a third-year majoring in biology, and Nylah Jennings, a third-year majoring in biology, spent the summer conducting field research on roadsides in central Pennsylvania to collect data on two invasive thistle species.

“The data we have been collecting during our roadside surveys will help us learn how both species have spread over the past 24 years,” said Patel, who was a participant in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program in the Eberly College of Science.

Swara Shroff

Swara Shroff, a fourth-year student majoring in applied data science and applied statistics, spent the past year and a half doing a Customer Success Engineer co-op at IBM. “As a Customer Success Engineer, I work in both a technical and client-facing role,” said Shroff. “Working with clients and performing hands-on work is my favorite part of the role.”
