Penn State's 3rd Annual PSU-PKU Summer Mathematics Program kicked off on Saturday, July 17, with a welcome lunch for the twelve Peking University students and their faculty members, Professor Zhiping Li and Professor Yulong Liu.
The lunch was held in the McAllister Building on the University Park campus. Dean Dean Daniel Larson was on hand to welcome the Peking University students and faculty to Penn State. Dean Larson was joined by John Roe, Department Head of Mathematics, Jinchao Xu, Francis R. and Helen M. Pentz Professor of Science, and Xiantao Li, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Director for this year's program.
The lunch and welcome also included Penn State students who have participated in past Summer Mathematics Programs at Peking University and current Penn State students who will be participating in this year's program along with the students from China. This year's program will focus on applied mathematics, and it will include collaborative projects between the Peking University and Penn State students culminating in research project presentations. The Peking University students also will participate in a range of cultural events to learn more about American culture and to experience the Penn State campus and local community.
Two previous PSU-PKU Summer Mathematics Programs were held at Peking University, and Penn State is happy to welcome the Peking students and faculty for the first summer program held at Penn State.
