Anna Mazzucato, Distinguished Senior Scholar and professor of mathematics at Penn State, has been named a Martarano Leadership Fellow.
The Martarano Leadership Fellows Program (formerly known as the Tombros Fellows Program) is intended to provide professional development opportunities for faculty in the Penn State Eberly College of Science. The professional development programs supported by this fund are intended to broaden faculty members' perspectives and experiences in academic leadership, gain insight into the management of the Eberly College of Science, and/or have the opportunity to develop new programs.
Mazzucato’s research focuses on the analysis of partial differential equations and their applications in fluid mechanics and elasticity. She is an expert in continuum mechanics, analysis of partial differential equations, inverse problems, global analysis, analysis on manifolds, harmonic and microlocal analysis, and numerical analysis.
As a Martarano Fellow, Mazzucato will work closely with the dean on projects and initiatives that collectively focus on faculty success, helping to inform the college about areas for improvement and additional ways to support and celebrate faculty success. She will also serve as the college’s representative on the University Faculty Affairs Advisory Council.
“It is an honor to receive the Martarano Leadership Fellowship; this fellowship will allow me to gain further administrative experience outside of my department, focusing specifically on faculty affairs,” said Mazzucato. “I look forward to working with the dean and other members of the dean’s office on various aspects of faculty affairs, and particularly on ways to support faculty from promotion and tenure to recognition and retention.”
Mazzucato has been with Penn State for 22 years, and most recently has been named a Simons Fellow in Mathematics in 2023. Prior, she was elected as a fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2021, honored with the Teresa Cohen Mathematics Service Award from Penn State in 2019, named a Distinguished Senior Scholar in 2018, and received the Ruth I. Michler Memorial Prize from the Association for Women in Mathematics in 2011.
