Penn State Math Student Receives $3,000 Scholarship from AMS

6 November 2012

Benjamin Levi HeebnerBenjamin Levi Heebner, a junior majoring in actuarial mathematics and minoring in economics and statistics, has been awarded a $3,000 Trjitzinsky Scholarship from the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Heebner was selected for the scholarship based on his outstanding academic record and financial need.

The AMS made $21,000 in awards to seven students, nationwide, through the Waldemar J. Trjitzinsky Memorial Fund. The AMS chose seven geographically distributed schools in a random drawing from the pool of the Society's institutional members, and the mathematics departments at those schools then chose students to receive the funds to assist them in pursuit of careers in mathematics.

Heebner graduated as salutatorian from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. In his free time, he enjoys watching and playing all sports as well as spending time with his family and friends.

Congratulations, Benjamin!
