Eric Simring, teaching professor of mathematics at Penn State, has been honored with the Department of Corrections Volunteer of the Year Award at the annual Department of Corrections Volunteer Banquet.
The award, administered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recognizes those who have given their time and selves to making a difference in the lives of incarcerated people.
Simring was selected for his “dedicated service, faithful presence, and compassionate care,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
Since 2022, Simring has visited Quehanna Boot Camp weekly to improve mathematics instruction.
