ALEXANDRIA VA, JUNE 27, 2016 – Francesca Chiaromonte, Murali Haran and Wayne DeSarbo have been named Fellows of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society, announced ASA President Jessica Utts
To be recognized as an ASA Fellow, honorees must make outstanding professional contributions to and have exhibited leadership in the field of statistical science. Chiaromonte, Haran and DeSarbo will be awarded certificates at a ceremony August 2, 2016, at the 2016 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM 2016) in Chicago.
Since 1914, the ASA has conferred the designation of Fellow, which, according to ASA bylaws, is extended to a maximum of one-third of one percent of the total association membership. Individuals are nominated by their ASA colleagues, and the Committee on Fellows evaluates each candidate’s contributions, giving consideration to such factors as research, teaching, mentoring, occupation, service to the ASA and the broader community, professional activities and accomplishments in other organizations.
