When an instructor files a claim of an academic integrity violation, the student is given the opportunity to (1) accept or contest the allegation, and (2) accept or contest the proposed sanction.
If the student contests either the allegation or the proposed sanction, they can submit an explanation for why they are doing so through the academic integrity claims system.
The instructor can submit a response, and the student may then submit a final response.
The college's academic integrity committee will review the claim and the responses from the student and the instructor to determine whether the student is responsible for an academic integrity violation (if the allegation was contested) and, if so, whether the proposed sanction is appropriate.
If the committee concludes that additional information is needed beyond that contained in the claim and responses, the committee will schedule a hearing with the instructor and the student.
Additional details concerning the processing of academic integrity claims can be found in the University's policy on academic integrity.
