Technology Advisory Board
The Penn State Eberly College Technology Advisory Board has been designed with the mission of meeting the following objectives:
-
Support the translation of new and novel technologies among all disciplines within the Eberly College, including biological, mathematical, and physical sciences
-
Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism by providing the ‘outside perspective’.
-
Prepare and support faculty, postdocs, and students for successful development of scientific innovations for transfer and career readiness.
Advisory Board Members will:
Support the College’s Strategy:
- Advise the Eberly College of Science Office for Innovation (O4I) on strategic planning and implementation to improve the college’s ability to support our researchers in technology translation.
- Provide feedback to improve college-level programs.
- Serve as advocates for these initiatives within the Eberly College and University-wide on a local, regional and national basis, when appropriate.
Support Technology Development:
- Lend insight, experience, and expertise to advise the strategy for translating new innovations for the market, including providing the outside perspective, selection of use-cases, considerations for intellectual property strategy, and advising on critical experiments.
- Assist in developing a network of resources to foster cooperation, collaboration and partnerships by reviewing materials, providing feedback, and making introductions.
- Guide startup founders towards best practices for licensing and contracting, especially in situations where the university cannot assist them as individuals, and before they have created formal boards.
Support Culture and Talent Development:
- Serve as reviewers & advisors for the internal translational funding program (e.g., Lab Bench to Commercialization (LB2C)).
- Foster a constructive and comfortable environment for our constituents to build their transfer readiness.
- Participate in one in-person TAB meeting per year.

Hear from one researcher, Scott Lindner, associate professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, about his interactions with the board.

The Office for Innovation is eager to engage our alumni to build a community that supports innovation. We are looking for volunteers to join our Technology Advisory Board, mentor our students, share wisdom, and build resources to support innovation.
