"Where Genius Meets Imagination" Ted-style talks at Penn State on 8 November 2013

27 October 2013

Brief talks by some of the most inspiring science and engineering researchers at Penn State will take place on 8 November 2013 in the HUB Auditorium on the Penn State University Park campus. The free event, called Discovery-U, is designed to give community members and Penn State students, alumni, faculty, and staff a quick and exciting glimpse into some of the superb research projects now underway at Penn State. Students considering careers in science and engineering are especially encouraged to attend.

Fifteen speakers in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics were selected as speakers for the event based on nominations by Penn State students. The speakers will present their talks in a series of three sessions, beginning at 10:00 a.m, 11:45 a.m, and 2:00 p.m. The first 25 students in the door for each session receive a Discovery-U T-shirt. Titles of some of the talks include "Power to the Puny: How Do You Make a Micro-Robot?," "The Vehicles Are Driving Us Now: Lessons in Humanity," and "Here Be Dragons - Environmental Science for People" More details are online at http://science.psu.edu/outreach/discovery-u.

Advance registration for the event is encouraged online at https://pennstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_5jupkKDnVYQgIXH, but walk-ins are welcome. Discovery-U will be filmed by WPSU, streamed live (www.discoveryu.psu.edu), and broadcast on YouTube and other websites after the event. This link will activate the day of the event.

Discovery-U is a Penn State Science event organized by the Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) student group, the Graduate Student Association, and the Eberly College of Science office of Outreach and Science Engagement (OSE). It is sponsored, in part, by the Dow Chemical Company.
