UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On Nov. 16, the Central Pennsylvania Local Section of the American Chemical Society hosted its centennial celebration at the Penn State Business Building. 2024 marked 100 years since the founding of the local section of the ACS. The celebration featured a reception and a poster symposium showcasing the work of local undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers, followed by a catered dinner and a keynote lecture.
Presenting the keynote lecture was Ayusman Sen, Verne M. Willaman Professor of Chemistry in the Penn State Eberly College of Science. His talk, titled “Fantastic Voyage: Designing Self-Powered Nanobots,” highlighted his research group’s work in active matter and pioneering molecular engineering by creating dynamic, self-powered synthetic materials that mimic living systems.
