The Penn State Eberly College of Science is pleased to welcome Mike Weyandt as its new senior director of development and alumni relations. Prior to this role, Weyandt was the director of development for the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology, and under his direction, the college surpassed their fundraising goals during the “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence” campaign.
“I am grateful to Dean Andrea Tapia, her leadership team, and the entire College of Information Sciences and Technology, who have supported and championed me and the work of the college’s development and alumni relations office to help advance our philanthropic mission and goals over the past six years,” Weyandt said. “Without this team effort, we would not have been able to accomplish our goals.”
Starting on Dec. 3, Weyandt will lead the Eberly College of Science’s development and alumni relations efforts in preparation for the public launch of the University’s and the college’s next capital campaign. He has a longstanding relationship with the college, where he served in multiple roles with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, including associate director of development and director of major gifts. Within these positions, Weyandt has engaged the college’s alumni and matched their interests with opportunities for giving.
Now, Weyandt said, he is looking forward to returning to the college and continuing this work.
“As I take this next step forward and rejoin the Eberly College of Science, utilizing my past experiences, I am looking forward to building on the college’s history of accomplishments with an amazing development, alumni relations, and stewardship team,” he said. “In partnership with Acting Dean Mary Beth Williams, through philanthropic support, I am excited to advance and transform science education, research, and accessibility for the students, faculty, and researchers in the Eberly College of Science. I look forward to championing the college’s mission and vision as we work with our alumni leaders, donors, and volunteers.”
Weyandt began his career with Penn State as an assistant director of development at the Bellisario College of Communications. While he was there, he secured the college’s largest Trustee Matching Scholarship at the time.
“I had the great pleasure of working with Mike when we launched the Millennium Scholars Program; he traveled with us to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute during the earliest days of this initiative and was a partner in building strong philanthropic support for the program from its inception,” said Mary Beth Willams, acting dean of the Eberly College of Science. “I’m thrilled to welcome him back once again; he will be a terrific partner in leading our development and alumni relations efforts, and his experience with our college will be a great asset going into our next capital campaign.”
