Eberly adviser recognized by the National Academic Advising Association

25 April 2025

Benjamin McMullen, academic adviser for the Eberly College of Science’s Premedicine and Integrative Science majors and doctoral candidate in Penn State’s Education Policy and Leadership program, was recently awarded “Best in Region 2” for his presentation, titled “Demystifying Research as an Academic Adviser Using Appreciative Advising Models,” at the National Academic Advising Association’s annual regional conference held this year in Buffalo, New York.

McMullen co-authored the presentation with Giancarlo Labruna, academic adviser for the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering major at Penn State.

“I’m very proud of our advising team,” said Carolyn Jensen, director of the Eberly College of Science Academic Advising Center. “They are very active in professional societies, and to be recognized by fellow advisers is a big deal. This is the first time we’ve had someone on our team win a regional competition.”

As part of this recognition, McMullen will deliver the presentation at the association’s national conference this fall in Las Vegas, Nevada.
