Physics FTheory

Event Series:

The self-consistency of general relativity interacting with matter places surprising constraints on quantum fields. Recently, this interplay has been used to motivate and derive new constraints on energy and entropy with consequences for everyday matter accessible in the lab. I will describe how old ideas about time machines in general relativity have led to new ideas about quantum matter, including new predictions for the 3D Ising model, which governs ferromagnets and boiling water near the critical point.
