Event Series:

Title: "Pleasure with Orgasm: the Role of Excitation and Inhibition"

Abstract: This seminar will review the most up-to-date research on the sexual response. It will cover the physiological and neurological changes, different types of sex and the associated anatomy and physiology, and acknowledge the critical role that sex plays in the human experience - reproductive and not. Ultimately, the seminar will pose suggestions on how to better teach the subject to 100- and 400-level anatomy and physiology courses.

Dr. Barry Komisaruk specializes in the neuroscience of orgasm, specifically understanding the neurological response to orgasm, the anatomical pathways through peripheral nerves and in regions of the brain, and its relationship to pain and spinal cord injuries. He’s made direct and significant impacts on patients (by discovering treatable cysts that causes cases of Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder), science communication (with features in the news and by authoring books), and mentorship (as the Program Director of the NIH Minority Biomedical Research Support Grant at Rutgers-Newark).
