A merger of a black-hole and neutron-star binary system had remained elusive in the gravitational-wave (GW) and electromagnetic surveys. In January 2020, LIGO and Virgo observatories made the first ever detection of the GW signals from two compact binary systems, one of whose masses is consistent with a neutron star. I discuss properties of the detection and inferred sources, focusing on how we justify the presence of a neutron star in the systems. I also mention the astrophysical implication based on the sources and future prospects.
