While non-interacting topological systems have been fully classified, there exists no general framework for interacting topological systems. In this talk, I will show that in topological Thouless pumps – dimensionally reduced versions of the integer quantum Hall effect – interparticle interactions can lead to the emergence of quantization, distinctly different from any non-interacting system. In particular, I will theoretically and experimentally illustrate integer and fractionally quantized nonlinear Thouless pumping via soliton formation using coupled waveguide arrays, as well as theoretically illustrate fractional Thouless pumping in fermionic few-particle systems. Finally, I will show advances towards the fabrication of deep-etched photonic structures in technologically relevant crystalline materials.
