National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, Dr. Sylvia Earle, has traveled the world inspiring others to love and care for the oceans. The Nittany Divers SCUBA Club is proud to host this distinguished speaker in an event that will inspire audience members to do more to protect our environment for generations to come.

About the Event

Please join us on Sunday, March 1st as Dr. Sylvia Earle speaks about the immediate need to protect our oceans in an event that is free and open to the public! In addition, there will be an opportunity to interact with Dr. Earle through a Q&A immediately following the presentation.

Although reservations are not required, we are encouraging those who wish to attend to RSVP on our Facebook event. Parking is available for $1 per hour at either the HUB Parking Deck on Shortlidge Road or the East Parking Deck on Bigler Road.

About Dr. Sylvia Earle

Dr. Sylvia Earle is an Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society, founder of the Deep Search Foundation, Chair of the Advisory Council for the Harte Research Institute and Marine Science and Technology Foundation, and former Chief Scientist of NOAA. Author of more than 175 publications and leader of more than 100 expeditions with more than 7000 hours underwater, she is a recipient of more than 100 national and international awards. A graduate of Florida State University with MS and PhD from Duke University, her research concerns the ecology and conservation of marine ecosystems, and development of technology for access to the deep sea. She was named Time Magazine's first "Hero for the Planet", a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, and a 2009 winner of the TED Prize.

About Nittany Divers SCUBA Club

Founded in 1967, the Nittany Divers SCUBA Club is a recognized student organization at Penn State University that is dedicated to promoting the underwater world in a safe and sensible manner. Students, faculty, and members of the public are invited to join the organization at bi-weekly meetings, distinguished events, and club socials to learn more about SCUBA and to grow the SCUBA community at Penn State.
