Title: Building Deep Learning Methodologies for Time-Domain Astrophysics

Abstract: The eruptions, collisions and explosions of stars drive the universe’s chemical and dynamical evolution. The upcoming Large Synoptic Survey Telescope will drastically increase the discovery rate of these transient phenomena, bringing time-domain astrophysics into the realm of “big data.” In this talk, I will discuss ongoing efforts to use deep learning to identify and analyze supernovae discovered with wide-field photometric surveys.

Astro Colloquium and 'coffee & cookies' department gathering (3:45-4:00pm)
