What motivates you to do science?

My motivation to be a scientist is to make a significant contribution to society, where I can motivate other Latina women to see that we are capable of doing great things. I hope that younger generations can see that they belong here, and that they are not alone. I also aspire to give back to the people that have helped me become who I am today, which includes my family and my hometown in Puerto Rico.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Hispanic Heritage Month is a month where I can share with my community a space of joy and pride. It is also a time of reflection, where I can see that everything I’ve done has a purpose and that I am going in the right direction. Also, it also helps me feel closer to home even when I’m miles away.
