What motivates you to do/pursue science and/or medicine?

As a scientist, I am always motivated by the possibility to make a new discovery or invention that can have a profound impact on society. In my current role, my work is at the interface between chemistry, biology, and materials science and is focused on the manufacture of therapeutic proteins and vaccines. I also have a keen interest in collaboration with organizations that focus on ways to increase diversity and inclusion in science and engineering fields.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

I believe that Black History Month provides opportunities to direct attention to Black scientists in new and interesting ways that link their past scientific achievements to the challenges of the present day. The goal is to generate interest in such a way that students will want to continue to learn and study Black history throughout the entire year.

Anything else you would like to share?

I would like to thank Professor Harry Allcock for the opportunity to join his research group and for allowing me to develop and pursue research projects of my own choice. I also thank Mr. Henry McCoullum for providing me an opportunity to serve as a graduate student representative on the Eberly College of Science Climate and Diversity Committee.
