What motivates you to do science?

I enjoy challenging myself with the troubleshooting and problem-solving that come with exploring the sciences. The most satisfying and encouraging feeling is finally being able to understand a difficult topic and have that "Aha!" moment.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Hispanic Heritage Month makes me excited to celebrate my own culture while also learning about the history and traditions from other Hispanic countries. This month reminds me of how grateful I am to have grown up in a family that embraces strong family values and finding strength through unity and community. Now that I am studying chemistry at Penn State, Hispanic Heritage Month helps me feel more connected to my roots because I am able to share my heritage and indulge in amazing food and music that reminds me of home.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am really excited to be directly involved in creating community and support for students on Penn State's campus as the copresident of SACNAS (the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science). We hope to foster an inclusive environment through the events that SACNAS will have throughout the 2022–2023 academic year and the future.
