What motivates you to do science?

I am motivated by how science is a way of finding out directly about the world from evidence. It is not just about learning the facts, but also understanding them. Discovering something unknown to anyone else in the world and the excitement and fun of working things out came into my vision of the rewards and privileges of doing research. Moments when I’m able to overcome an intimidating challenge and moments when I get to share science with others drive me forward.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

It is a time when we can reflect on how our cultures have influenced and shaped other cultures and places. It is a time to break stereotypes and bring awareness to our community of the contributions, struggles, and advancements Hispanics have made throughout history. This is a time when we celebrate with pride and joy our roots and commemorate the importance of our differences.
