What motivates you to do/pursue science and/or medicine?

I am motivated to do research because it allows me to help people. Not only does the science I'm doing have the potential to change people’s lives, but it also allows me to mentor. Science is really phenomenal, and many young scientists/students don't even know how to approach it. Being a researcher allows me to show students at the bench or reading papers just how much they can impact others and what they may be capable of doing.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Hispanic Heritage Month to me is a time to recognize all of the people that came before me, my immigrant family and so many others, to acknowledge all the hard work they have done to allow me to be here and getting a Ph.D.
