Black History Month, for me, means acknowledging the struggles and honoring the successes of Black and African Americans of the past and present. It means recognizing centuries of institutionalized disadvantages placed upon Blacks, but also celebrating our resourcefulness and resilience. It is a time to display how much we've come to achieve despite longstanding persecution and inequality. Black History Month is a reminder to all that our talents, capabilities, intelligence, contributions to society, and very existence cannot be floundered or diminished, and that we shall always overcome. I am beyond proud to be a Black woman and more so one in the field of science. I am thankful for all those who paved the way for me and every other man, woman, and child of color. Black History Month is an important reminder to never forget from who, from where, and from what we've come.
