Hi! My name is Taylor Geist, and I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. I just finished my undergraduate degree at Western New England University in Forensic Chemistry with a minor in Psychology. While I was studying in Massachusetts, I played collegiate volleyball and coached a nationally traveling volleyball team. I also had the opportunity to research nanotechnology by studying synthesis pathways for Carbon Dots and how their properties can be manipulated for testing various substances. Wanting to participate in the community around me, I also worked in the Math Center as a peer tutor, along with being a Teacher’s Assistant for Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. Once I graduated, I went to work for MRI Global in Virginia where I learned about how analytical chemistry and forensic chemistry can be married together in government contracting.
I chose Penn State because of the Forensic Science department. The professors and staff strive to give endless opportunities to learn and grow in research and the classroom. Additionally, having a small sized cohort allows for more individualized learning while still being a part of the large community that is Penn State. I am extremely excited to further my education here!
