Wayfinding—the process of orienting and traveling from place to place—helped Polynesian voyagers navigate across the ocean, relying on the stars, the sun, and the ocean to determine where they needed to go. Microplastics have been found in the depths of the Mariana Trench and the snow on Mt. Everest, in human brains, the bellies of sea turtles, and the roots of plants. Chemists in the Eberly College of Science are studying how microplastics in the atmosphere could be affecting weather and climate.

With over 800 learning assistants (LAs) supporting nearly 50 academic programs at Penn State, our Learning Assistant Program—one of the largest in the country—impacts as many as 10,000 undergraduate students each year, aiding in learning and leadership.

The research collections in the greenhouses have hosted extensive scientific research efforts for over 50 years, and have solidified Penn State’s reputation in the International Botanical Research Community.
