Mark Rameker, senior director of residence life at Penn State, has been named the associate dean of operations in the Eberly College of Science, effective March 1, 2026. In this role, Rameker will manage the college’s core operations offices, including Facilities, Outreach, Communications, Data Analysis, and IT, oversee operational processes, coordinate college-wide projects, and play a key role in executing the college strategic plan.
“Mark is a committed team builder and experienced leader who brings deep expertise at a pivotal moment for higher education and an important time for the college, as we launch our strategic plan,” said Tracy Langkilde, Verne M. Willaman Dean of the Eberly College of Science. “He brings nearly three decades of higher education leadership, a wealth of institutional knowledge, and valuable connections to this role. We are pleased to welcome Mark to the college.”
In his role with residence life, Rameker oversees large scale residential operations, crisis response, leadership development, and inclusive community building initiatives. He leads a team responsible for 58 staff, more than 500 residential assistants, and a budget of $16.7 million across a complex, multifaceted organization at University Park and several Commonwealth campuses. He has also helped lead University-wide initiatives around co-curricular learning, emergency responsiveness, and COVID quarantine and isolation.
“I’m honored for the opportunity to serve the Eberly College of Science and the University in a way that supports the work happening every day across classrooms, labs, offices, and in the broader community,” Rameker said. “I look forward to working closely with Dean Langkilde and college leadership as the college embarks on its new strategic plan. I am eager to return to my early education and career interests in science to partner with staff, faculty, and students to create environments where people and ideas can flourish.”
For his excellent work, Rameker was recognized by Penn State Student Affairs with the Continuous Quality Improvement Award in 2009 and 2010 and the Above and Beyond Award in 2009. He has served as a part-time assistant teaching professor in the College of Education at Penn State, teaching courses on legal issues in higher education and student affairs, undergraduate student success, and student and other clientele in higher education.
Prior to joining Residence Life at Penn State in 2005, Rameker held positions at the University of California, San Diego, and San Diego State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a biology minor at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, a master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education at Ball State University, and a doctoral degree in higher education from Penn State.
