Become an Alumni Mentor

Main Content

You can make an impact on a student's life by becoming a mentor. Mentors serve as guides to students, answering questions, giving advice, and helping them to learn more about their field of interest and about themselves.

How can I enroll in the program?

If you are an alumnus of the Eberly College of Science then you are eligible to mentor a science student.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through LionLink. Please complete your profile and registration online.

If you have any questions about the application process or the Mentoring Program, please contact Mary Kilcoyne at mck48@psu.edu

All applications will be reviewed before being approved for the program. Upon completion, you will have access to a network of Penn Staters already registered on the platform.

We will do our best to match you with a student whose interests closely align with your professional experience.

We are hosting a fall kickoff event Saturday, September 28 where you will have an opportunity to learn more about the mentoring program, interact with current Eberly students and, if matched, work with your mentee to develop goals and action steps for the program.

RSVP online to attend!

What should I expect as a participant in the mentoring program?

Regular communication will help you and your mentee to get the most out of the program. Managing expectations is key! Every student has their own needs. For example, some may only seek your input and guidance as needed for interview practice whereas others will want more interaction and check-ins.

You can communicate with one another via e-mail, phone and visits to your workplace, if you so choose. We do recommend scheduling an initial videoconferencing session if an in-person meeting is not feasible.

This is not a job placement program. You are not expected to offer employment or internships to the student you are mentoring. You are simply asked to communicate regularly with the student as the two of you see fit. The student may need support with time management or may have questions about areas of study, career options, or your career or area(s) of expertise and interest.
