The Eberly College of Science’s Alumni Society is an advocacy group committed to the college’s success. Through participation either in a leadership role or on a committee, members are giving the opportunity to utilize their talents for the benefit of the alumni society and enhance the quality of science education at Penn State by providing advice and support to administrators, faculty, students, and alumni.

After graduating from Penn State, Linde Miles went on to receive her Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Molecular Sciences from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2016. In 2017, she began a postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, focusing on the underlying biology of acute myeloid leukemia. Afterward, she joined the faculty at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center as an Assistant Professor in the Experimental Hematology & Cancer Biology Division. Her research continues to focus on the evolution and development of acute myeloid leukemia. With over 16 years of research experience, Linde has contributed to multiple landmark translational studies and received numerous awards and fellowships for her research achievements.
Linde is extremely dedicated to volunteering her spare time to Penn State. Since 2015, she has been involved in her local Penn State Alumni Association NYC Chapter. She currently serves as co-leader of the PSAA NYC Chapter Advisory Board after 7 years serving on the Chapter Executive Board. Linde is also an active member of the Greater Cincinnati Chapter and was recently voted onto the Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Council. She also serves as a mentor to students interested in STEM careers through the Eberly College Mentoring Program.
Linde is an avid runner, enthusiastic Penn State sports fan, and life member of the Penn State Alumni Association. Linde is a native of Huntingdon, PA and currently lives in Cincinnati, OH with her husband, Cary.

Bonnie is a retired sales and marketing executive with over 25 years of U.S. and international healthcare industry experience. She worked for Abbvie/Abbott Laboratories in Chicago for over 25 years and upon retirement, she was director of market access for Allergan Integration. She led the integration of the market access function, which included identifying synergies and overseeing multiple workstreams. Additionally, Bonnie lived and worked outside the U.S. when she served as managing director and country general manager for Abbott in the Republic of Ireland and in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In addition to serving on the Eberly Alumni Society Board, she also serves on the Lion’s Paw Alumni Association Board of Trustees, which promotes the welfare and perpetuates the traditions of the University. She was also recently elected to serve on the board of trustees of her local public library.
In addition to her Penn State degree, she also has an MBA in Marketing and International Business from the University of Michigan and will soon complete a Masters in Public Health at Loyola University of Chicago. Bonnie lives in the Chicago area with her husband, John. They have three children, one of whom is a 2020 Penn State graduate with a B.S. in Health Policy and Administration.

Prior to her current role as Director for Animal Welfare External Due Diligence for GSK, she commissioned and managed 37,000 square feet of multi-species vivarium for academic research for Columbia University in the Manhattanville neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Prior to that, she served as the director of enrichment and behavioral medicine for Charles River Laboratories, harmonizing environmental enrichment practices and developing behavioral husbandry programs to enhance animal welfare and operational efficiency. In this role, she garnered an international reputation as a behavior and enrichment expert in the laboratory animal medicine field, led research to provide evidence-based data for enrichment and behavioral management initiatives, and published in the field of laboratory animal enrichment and behavior management multiple species.
Winnie earned her DVM from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. She completed both a residency in laboratory animal medicine and earned a master’s in public health with a focus on toxicology at Columbia University in New York. She earned her Six Sigma Black Belt from Six Sigma Academy in 2011.

After graduating from Penn State, Amy has spent over 35 years working in Information Technology. She was a leader for many years at IBM and Kyndryl, and joined Accenture in 2021 as a Managing Director in technology. Throughout her career, she has supported clients across multiple industries, leading cloud and data center migration and transformation programs, enabling large scale delivery of managed services, and leading engineering teams as they create new capabilities for clients through use of technology.
Amy grew up on a dairy farm in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. Her father was a Penn Stater and instilled the love of Penn State early in her life. Amy and her husband, Paul, currently split their time between homes in State College and Windermere, Florida, enjoying free time with family and friends and their five children and four grandchildren. Their son graduated from Penn State in 2021 with degrees in Mathematics and Economics, and their daughter graduated in 2023 with a degree in Animal Science and is attending vet school at LSU.
Amy is an advocate for women in technology and is passionate about bringing talent into the industry. She participated on the IBM Women’s Executive Council for diversity and inclusion, with focus on Allyship. She also is a volunteer and mentor for Special Olympics.
Doctoral Student, Georgetown University

Gareth is a doctoral student in biology at Georgetown University, where his research investigates how bacteria living inside breast tumors change the tumor’s behavior to resist treatment. Previously, he served as a research technician and laboratory manager in the Department of Chemistry, where he advanced live-cell RNA visualization technologies to better understand cancer cell behavior, while simultaneously completing his master of science degree in tumor biology through Georgetown University’s School of Medicine. Gareth has been recognized several times for excellence in science communication.
While completing his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Penn State, Gareth conducted research in Tim Miyashiro’s lab studying how animal-microbe symbioses initially assemble. He also worked as a science marketing and communications analyst in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research, was on the Eberly College of Science Student Council, played on the men’s club lacrosse team, was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and served as a teaching assistant in chemistry.
Gareth is passionate about philanthropy, contributing to THON during his time at Penn State and now as a BellRinger rider raising funds for the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, DC.
Gareth is a native of Chicago and currently lives in Arlington, Virginia, where he enjoys running, skiing, and rooting for Chicago sports teams.

After graduating from Penn State and the Shreyer Honors College, Steve went on to receive his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He completed NIH-funded postdoctoral studies at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later joined the faculty in the biology department at Tufts University where his research focused on genetic and epigenetic modes of protein regulation. In 2019, Steve transitioned from academia to business leadership roles in the nonprofit and private sector where he now focuses on developing collaborative research partnerships.
Having been the faculty mentor for dozens of undergraduate and graduate students and having served as a long-time chair of the Career Development Committee for the Protein Society, Steve has a lifelong passion for mentoring young scientists. Currently, he regularly speaks to student and postdoc groups about careers and career transitions.
Steve is a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and lives in the greater Boston area with his wife and two young girls.

Robert moved to California after graduation for residency training in Family Medicine, and subsequently trained in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM). He is board-certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine as an OEM specialist.
His career path went from solo practice to small group practice and then to medical director for a larger growing specialty group in Silicon Valley. He soon became the chief medical officer (CMO) for US HealthWorks in California. After a brief sojourn during the dot-com era pioneering internet-based healthcare education, he was recruited to the faculty at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
At UCSF, Robert became the residency program director for OEM and pursued epidemiological research in ergonomics and the diagnosis and prevention of upper extremity and neck disorders. He served on the Environment, Health and Safety panel of the University of California President’s Council, overseeing the National Laboratories at Los Alamos, Livermore, and Berkeley. He was also elected to the National Council for Radiation Protection and Measurement.
After retiring from UCSF, he became the CMO at Landmark Healthcare. Robert ended his full-time career as the CMO at Healthesystems, where he built the clinical team, lead clinical strategies, and developed a national medication formulary based on the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) medical treatment guidelines.
As a renowned leader in the specialty, Robert presented widely at local, state, national, and international professional meetings and societies. He served as the president of the ACOEM and the vice-chair of the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
His professional honors include Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (FACOEM) and faculty of Occupational Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
Robert and his wife, Sandy, have established a scholarship in the Eberly College of Science for premedical and biomedical students. They reside in northern California and enjoy hiking, sailing, cycling, skiing and travel.

Tori Hippen earned her master of public health from Brown University in 2026 with an interdisciplinary concentration in equitable health systems and clinical care delivery. Her work focuses on health systems equity, patient-centered care, health care delivery, and the intersection of medicine, advocacy, and community engagement.
At Penn State, Tori earned dual degrees in biology and psychology, with a minor in neuroscience. She served as director of alumni engagement for the Student Philanthropy Network through the Office of Annual Giving, where she worked to connect student organizations with alumni and build long-lasting student-alumni relationships. She was also deeply involved in THON as overall chair for the Whiplash Dance Team in 2024, leading fundraising efforts that raised more than $34,000 for Four Diamonds. In addition, she volunteered with Remote Area Medical, served as an undergraduate learning assistant in statistics, chemistry, and biology courses, and worked in the Cognitive Aging and Neuroimaging Lab.
At Brown, Tori founded and served as president of the Graduate Medical Humanities Initiative, helping to establish a 175-member graduate student community that connects public health, medicine, the arts, and the humanities. She also served as the sole graduate student representative on Brown’s College Curriculum Council, as teaching assistant in epidemiology, and as writing specialist for students applying to health professional programs. Through her practicum with the Rhode Island Free Clinic, she developed a 119-page economic and public health impact evaluation to support the clinic’s sustainability and advocacy efforts. She has also contributed to global emergency medicine manuscripts focused on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and intimate partner violence.
Tori plans to apply to medical school and hopes to pursue a career in family medicine, using her public health training to advocate for patients, strengthen communities, and advance more equitable systems of care.
Tori is especially passionate about improving student life and strengthening the student experience on campus, while helping alumni of all ages remain closely connected to the Penn State community they love. Drawing on her experience in alumni engagement at Penn State and curriculum development and review at Brown, she hopes to work with the Eberly College of Science Alumni Board to identify gaps, build meaningful student-alumni connections, and help students and alumni access the resources, mentorships, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Kyle serves as an emergency medicine physician in State College at Mount Nittany Medical Center with over 10 years of post-graduate clinical experience. As an undergraduate, he was a photographer for the Daily Collegian and captain of the men’s club cross country team. During medical school, he was a Global Health Scholar, spending two separate periods in Ecuador after having lived briefly in both Colombia and Spain. He also served as the AAMC student representative, class president, and literary editor of Wild Onions, a student run humanities publication.
After graduating from medical school, he continued his training at the University of Texas at Houston in emergency medicine where he again participated in global health as Vice Chair of Global Health. He spent a full month abroad at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Kyle returned to the State College area where he continues to practice. He teaches resident and student physicians and takes on undergraduate students to shadow in the emergency department. He serves on the Medical Executive Committee of Mount Nittany Health, where he is involved in discussing issues ranging from patient care to operations.
Kyle lives locally with his wife, two children, and two lovable dogs. An avid traveler, he has visited 46 states and 43 countries spanning four continents. While he loves Penn State sports, he is a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Nick Lyktey currently is the chief of laboratory operations at Gravity Diagnostics, which is a clinical diagnostics laboratory based out of Covington, Kentucky. Nick oversees the data entry, laboratory, facilities, supply chain (which includes fulfillment, warehouse, and courier teams), collector operations, field operations, research and development, and quality teams as his group of direct reports. Nick was hired in September of 2019 as the company’s first research and development hire and quickly moved up the operational hierarchy to oversee the majority of the company’s personnel. Nick was able to validate clinical methodologies for alcohol confirmation testing and oral toxicology testing, while later overseeing the rapid growth of Gravity Diagnostics during multiple COVID surges. At this time, Gravity Diagnostics processes and focuses primarily on toxicology, upper respiratory, sexually transmitted infection, and pharmacogenetics specimens for facilities that are working with substance use disorder patients. Since volunteering has always been one of Nick's core principles, he also championed and spearheaded the company-wide volunteering initiative with the Adopt-A-Class organization, where they mentor third grade students at a local elementary school about the STEM field.
While at Penn State, Nick was the alumni relations director and president of Science LionPride, which worked closely with the Alumni Society Board for the Eberly College of Science, and did research in Miriam Freedman’s lab, where he studied the chemical and physical changes that minerals undergo as it relates to cloud formation and climate.
Nick has remained a loyal Penn Stater since graduating, as a member of the Penn State Greater Cincinnati alumni chapter and a dedicated sports fan. In addition to his Penn State fandom, Nick is an extremely passionate New York sports fan, dedicated dog father to his beagle-mix, Maggie, and his corgi, Annabelle, and a proud husband to his wife, Lauren, who is a Penn Stater by marriage.

Cynthia is retired after a 25-year career in information technology consulting. As a consultant, she provided guidance in selecting and implementing new systems, enhancing business processes, and utilizing technology to provide strategic advantages. During her career, she consulted with companies in a broad range of industries, including automotive, health care, hospitality, manufacturing, and real estate. She is an adjunct faculty member at Penn State’s Great Valley campus, where she teaches courses in the MBA program.
Cynthia has returned to the Penn State Eberly College of Science Alumni Society Board after a hiatus of several decades. She previously served five terms on the Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Council. She was a member of Penn State’s Graduate School Alumni Society Board of Directors for 23 years and was president of the board from 2018 to 2021.
In addition to her Penn State degrees, she received an MBA in marketing from Temple University in Philadelphia. After living in the Washington, DC and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, Cynthia recently re-located to Lancaster, PA. Cynthia enjoys traveling and has visited 41 states and 50 countries on five continents.

Ryan Poole is a senior program manager for TekSynap, a Federal Government Information Technology service provider in Reston, VA. Prior to his role with TekSynap, Ryan served as program manager at Acuity, a management and technology consulting firm. Throughout his career, Ryan has also supported a wide variety of federal organizations with his expertise in program/project management, IT service management, IT operations, and business intelligence.
As a Penn State undergrad, Ryan was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was a writer for The Collegian. Ryan is a proud alum of the Eberly College of Science as well as Loyola College, where he received a Master of Engineering Science and an MBA. A native of Madison, New Jersey, Ryan lives in Leesburg, Virginia.

After Isaac earned his biology degree and masters in management and organizational leadership from Penn State, he began bridging the gap between STEM and business acumen within the pharmaceutical and US healthcare industries. At Better Health Group, Isaac is a high-level senior business analyst managing program design for utilization management, pharmacy, site of care, and virtual programs while also providing data insights to improve value-based primary care models.
Prior to his engagement in US healthcare, Isaac held the following roles within the pharmaceutical industry: project / program manager, quality control operations scheduler, corrective action preventative action group leader, laboratory operations manager, and business analytics & continuous improvement manager. Before transitioning into his current role, Isaac was a recipient of a peer-to-peer annual award, “Not the way it’s always been – Champions Change,” as a result of his continuous process improvements. He was also a core member of a data governance & integrity steering committee, as well as the data integrity & compliance training lead for new hire orientations.
As a Penn State undergrad, Isaac was a member of the Biome Living Learning Community, participated in THON as a committee member, served as a teaching assistant for several biology courses, and participated in Dr. Joseph Reese’s research at the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation. In addition to serving on the Eberly Alumni Society Board, Isaac also serves as a virtual panelist for ongoing events hosted by the Penn State Smeal College of Business. During Isaac’s free time, he continues to engage with his local community through volunteer initiatives and has recently picked up an interest in yoga, Pilates, and National Assocation of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Club adult gymnastics.

Chris serves as an associate clinical professor in the Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems in Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, where he has taught courses in introductory supply chain management, supply chain analytics, management information systems, and business analytics. As the college’s academic director of graduate programs in business analytics, he oversees the curriculum and staffing for the online graduate certificate in Business Analytics and resident master of business analytics programs. Additionally, Chris serves as the faculty director of the Sapphire Leadership Academic Program, an exclusive undergraduate leadership and professional development program for high-achieving students in the Smeal College of Business.
Prior to joining the Smeal faculty, Chris served over 21 years on active duty with the United States Air Force, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his military career, he held leadership positions in the intelligence, acquisition program management, and operations research analyst career fields, with duty assignments in Texas, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and the Republic of Korea. During this time, he also served on the faculty of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy, where he taught undergraduate courses covering probability and statistics, optimization, decision analysis, queueing theory, and simulation.
Chris lives in State College with his wife Susie (Penn State), and is extremely proud of his two children (both, Penn State) who recently started careers in finance and the military. Supporting fellow veterans, he serves as the finance officer for the local American Legion post. In his free time, Chris enjoys kayaking, fishing, camping, hiking, cooking, and tailgating at Penn State football games.
Dentist, Dale F. Spadafora DMD

After Dale received his Biology degree from Penn State, he went on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1990. He completed his residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio and immediately opened his own dental practice in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, which he still runs today.
Dale is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.
Currently Dale is President Elect with the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry. He also lectures on full arch dental implantology for Stabiliteeth Inc.
In his free time, Dale volunteers for his church and community. He has served as a youth and high school soccer coach since 2002. Dale’s wife, Deanna, is also a graduate of Penn State, with a 1989 B.S. in Nursing. His daughter, Isabella, graduated from Penn State in 2019 with a degree in Advertising/Public Relations and his son, Sergio, is a current student at Penn State, majoring in Biology.

Douglas G. Weaver is a 1985 Penn State graduate with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He began a career with Alcoa in the Pittsburgh area, then moved on to Bristol Myers Squibb in Syracuse, New York, and then to Boston, Massachusetts. Doug is a highly accomplished analytical chemist with over 30 years of cross-functional experience in the pharmaceutical and materials science industries. Doug specializes in complex materials characterization and the development of robust analytical methods in good manufacturing practices (GMP) environments.
Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a versatile problem solver, bridging the gap between research and development (R&D) and manufacturing support. His expertise covers a vast array of techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy (one dimensional / two dimensional, solid/liquid, and liquid chromatography [LC] / NMR), scanning electron microscopy / energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), chromatography, vibrational spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. Beyond his technical proficiency, Doug is an experienced leader who has successfully managed technical projects, supervised diverse teams, and coordinated global manufacturing investigations. He also holds a master of science degree in chemistry and is a published researcher and patent holder.
Doug is married to Cathy Crowley Weaver, a ceramic engineer (also Penn State Class of 1985), and has two grown sons living in the Boston area. He recently retired and relocated to State College.

Abralena De Jesus Wilson, DO, MPH, practices Acute Care Surgery and Wound Care at Long Island, as she is President of ADJ Wilson PLLC. She started her surgical training in the United States Army Medical Corps, where she completed her surgical internship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She served as the Administrative Chief Surgical Resident at St. Barnabas and was appointed to the Program Evaluation Committee, serving as the voice and liaison for surgical residents, which eventually led to her passion for and commitment to collaborating with colleagues for the improvement and development of program initiatives and goals for current and future surgical residents. She is a surgery faculty for the general surgery residency program at St. Catherine of Siena Hospital. She already serves as NYITCOM Clinical Instructor, and mentors at the Women's Health Institute and the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, as her interest is to mentor the next future generation of medical students. Her interests include spiritual development, travel, and philanthropy, all of which transcend from her personal life into her professional dedication and commitment to helping others through medicine.
1993 B.S. Microbiology
Mike most recently served as EVP of Manufacturing Operations for Nortis Inc. Nortis was an early-stage company with organ-on-a-chip technologies. He was responsible for all internal manufacturing and related operations, as well as identifying and developing relationships with key contract manufacturing partners. Prior to Nortis, he worked for Nanostring Technologies for 15 years. Mike’s responsibilities included all reagent manufacturing, product and process transfer, and manufacturing engineering and automation. Nanostring grew from 30 employees to approximately 800 during this time, achieved ISO 13485 certification, launched the FDA-registered IVD Prosigna, and went public. They expanded their product offerings into spatial biology with our GeoMx and CosMx instruments and reagents as well. These products empower all aspects of digital, quantitative gene expression analysis, now with a spatial aspect within tissue samples, and even intracellular locations. Mike’s prior career experience includes a mix of R&D, basic research, and facilities and supplier management.
Mike is passionate about mentoring young scientists, especially those from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields. He currently serves as a mentor for the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship program, the PSU Alumni Association FastStart program, the LionLink online platform, and with the Biotech Boardroom program at PSU. In addition, while at Nanostring Mike sponsored an internship program focused on providing opportunities to traditionally under-represented students attending local community colleges. Mike is also the current President of the Puget Sound chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and has been on the board since 2022.
