Student Awards

Biology students are eligible and competitive for several Departmental, College, and University annual awards.

 

Department Awards

J. Ben and Helen D. Hill Memorial Fund

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding graduate students enrolled in the Eberly College of Science with interests in Botany (Plant Biology) or Genetics by providing a scholarship or fellowship to graduate students. Traditionally, this fund has been used to support graduate research in the areas of Plant Science and Genetics supervised by faculty members of the Department of Biology.

 

Jeanette Ritter Mohnkern Graduate Student Scholarship in Biology

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students. All graduate students pursuing or planning to pursue a biology-related major at Penn State are eligible to be nominated by their graduate advisors who are faculty in the Department of Biology. 

 

Dr. John Randall Shuman Troxell Memorial Scholarship in Biology

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students pursuing a degree in Biology in the Eberly College of Science at Penn State. All graduate students pursuing a degree in Biology are eligible to be nominated by their graduate advisors who are faculty in the Department of Biology. 

 

Henry W. Popp graduate Assistantship

The purpose of this award is to support outstanding graduate students in the plant sciences who have a need for financial assistance in order to meet their necessary college expenses. Their faculty adviser must be a member of the Department of Biology. The Popp Award covers one semester of assistantship (stipend, tuition and fringe) and has historically been awarded to a student who is nearing completion of his/her degree.
