Master of Applied Statistics (MAS)

Designing Your Plan of Study

The plan of study is just a plan and may be revised anytime. One should list all courses (including those taken) to be counted for the program. Do submit a new plan to mchow@psu.edu each time you revise it to make sure that the plan works. Here you can find the plan of study (document), sample plan for Biostatistics focus (document), sample plan for financial focus (document), sample plan for data analytic focus (document). Please keep a copy of the most current approved plan for future reference.

Typical course scheduling, course details and pre-requisite checklist

To help design the plan, here is the typical course scheduling (document). Details about the courses can be found by clicking on each course at the following site: STAT ONLINE. For example, you can find required textbooks and material for STAT 500 by visiting: https://online.stat.psu.edu/statprogram/stat500.

Pre-requisite checklist:

Course(s) for first semester

For the first semester, you are advised to start with STAT 500 as that is the pre-requisite for most other courses. With more time, one may also take STAT 480, 481, 482 in the first semester. (Students with suitable backgrounds can work with me to see whether they can skip STAT 500 or take Stat 501 concurrently).

The course(s) that you have registered using LionPATH should show up on your CANVAS site on the first day of class, if not before. If you have problems with registration using LionPATH, please visit: https://www.registrar.psu.edu/lionpath/knowledge-center/registration-faqs.cfm.

How to register for STAT 414, 480, 481, 482

Since LionPATH now enforces pre-requisites for undergraduate courses, you will get error messages when using LionPATH to enroll in these courses. You will need to e-mail registration@outreach.psu.edu with your 9-digit PSU id. Let them know that you are in the Master of Applied Statistics program and ask them to add you to the section of STAT 414 or STAT 480, 481, 482, 484, 485 that you want to enroll in.
