About

Nicole Lazar: Adventures in Statistics

Nicole Lazar received her BA in psychology and statistics from Tel Aviv University, after which she served for three years as a statistician in the IDF Behavioral Science Research Unit.  Following military service, she came to the US for graduate school, earning her MS in statistics from Stanford University, and PhD in statistics from the University of Chicago.  She then joined the faculty of the Department of Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, moving to the University of Georgia in 2004.  Since summer 2020 she is Professor in the Department of Statistics at Penn State University.  Her research interests include likelihood theory and other statistical foundations, and the analysis of functional neuroimaging data.  She is a past Editor in Chief of "The American Statistician" and Past-Past-President of the Caucus for Women in Statistics.  She is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

 

Bonnie Ghosh Dastidar: Making Impact with Statistics and Data Science

Madhumita (Bonnie) Ghosh Dastidar is a senior Statistician and Head of the RAND Statistics Group.  Her areas of public policy include HIV and Mental Health Interventions, Obesity, and Population Studies; her statistical expertise includes study design, survey methods, evaluations, non-response, and longitudinal and multilevel data methods. Dr. Ghosh-Dastidar has been active within the American Statistical Association as the conference chair of the International Conference on Health Policy Statistics; Vice Chair of the Committee on Women in Statistics, and Chair of the Council of Sections Governing Board.  The American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Committee on Women in Statistics recognized her contributions to statistics in the March 2019 issue of Amstat News, themed "Celebrating Women in Statistics and Data Science," in honor of Women's History Month. Finally, Bonnie is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association.
