Learning Assistants

Penn State provides students with several opportunities to work on a teaching team to develop their teaching skills. The Statistics department offers the opportunity for students to become Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs).

Serving as a teaching assistant is an excellent way to bring your knowledge and experiences to a teaching team supporting a statistical course. Undergraduate Teaching Assistants are paid positions and are often available each semester. If you are interested in becoming a UTA, contact the UTA Coordinator to discuss the current open positions. Applications will be received on an ongoing basis and reviewed as the need arises.

 

Eligibility Guidelines:

Qualified applicants should have taken the course they will be grading for and earned at least a B+ or better and must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Also, they should have effective communication and interpersonal skills, be reliable and organized, and have excellent time management skills. Preference will be given to students majoring in or minoring in Statistics

 

UTA Duties:

Statistic UTA’s will be involved with the grading of assignments for a given class based on a scoring rubric developed by the supervising faculty member. These might include daily problems, quizzes, pre-lab assignments, or laboratory reports.
