The Astrobiology minor is an interdisciplinary minor. It is managed by Prof. Matthew Fantle in the Department of Geosciences, and he is the primary contact for all formal questions about the astrobiology minor.

For more information about this minor:

The Astrobiology minor requires a total of 18 credits, with at least 6 credits at the 400 level:

  • BIOL/GEOSC 474
  • 9-10 credits from EARTH 002 or GEOSC 021, ASTRO 140 or ASTRO 291, GEOSC 204 or BIOL 427
  • 5-6 credits from ASTRO 475W, BIOL 405, BMB 401, BMB 402, GEOSC 416, GEOSC 419, METEO 466, or MICRB 201
  • A grade of C or better is required for all courses in the minor

For ASTRO majors who wish to pursue this minor, we have prepared a checklist of courses you can use for planning purposes. It does include ASTRO 420W, which is not currently an official course in the major. However, ASTRO majors pursuing the minor can contact Prof. Fantle to petition to use ASTRO 420W in lieu of ASTRO 475W to complete the minor
