Math Advisor Appointments
Speaking With a Math Advisor
Degrees
The undergraduate program in mathematics offers two separate degree programs: a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in mathematics. Within the B.S. program, there are six different options: Actuarial Mathematics, Applied and Industrial Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, General Mathematics, Graduate Study, and Systems Analysis. For more information on each of these, as well as a variety of other facts about our undergraduate program, please see our Undergraduate Degrees page
COVID-19
Until future notice, in-person advising appointments will not occur due to COVID-19. The advisors have set up Starfish advising times for general advising, which are open to all students (not just our assigned advisees). Students outside of Math can schedule an appointment with us by going to Starfish, selecting Services, and searching for "Science - Mathematics Advising (MTHBS, MTHBA)".
-
Students with general questions about the Mathematics program or courses should schedule with Dr. Steven Hair.
-
Students who are interested in a Mathematics major (either change of major or concurrent major) may schedule with either Dr. Hair or Dr. David Little.
-
Students who are interested in a Mathematics minor should schedule with Dr. Little.
-
Current Math majors should schedule with their assigned advisor.
Make an Appointment
If you have questions about making an appointment with a mathematics advisor, please email the Undergraduate Mathematics Office at undergrad@math.psu.edu. Here is the link to Starfish.
Quick Question Appointments:
For the first week of classes, Math Department advisors will have Quick Question appointment slots in Starfish for matters that do not require a full 30-minute advising appointment. Math majors should schedule Quick Question appointments with their assigned advisor. Students who are not in the Math major or are not assigned a Math advisor may schedule with any advisor.
