Centers

Our cross-college research centers are an integral part of the Penn State research community, fostering interdisciplinary networks that are making huge strides in scientific discovery related to our areas of research. Centers offer a variety of facilities and resources that support interactions among researchers within and outside the Eberly College of Science.

Astrobiology Research Center
We are devoted to broad, interdisciplinary research and to connecting people, ideas, and instrumentation in the rapidly developing field of astrobiology.

Electro-Optics Center
Our hybrid model combines the best components of a university and those of private industry to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in sea, land, air, space, and cyber domains through basic and applied research, rapid prototyping, as well as demonstration and fielding of technologies.

Center for Environmental Chemistry and Geochemistry
We promote the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas among the areas of chemistry, geochemistry, genomics, hydrology, meteorology, biology, agronomy, environmental engineering, and geology.

Center for Excellence in Chemical Ecology
Inspired by molecules we discover in microbes, fungi, plants, and animals, we strive to mimic nature's flavors and fragrances, medicines, and toxins, and learn how to put them to use for a healthier life and cleaner environment.

Center for Exoplanets and Habitable Worlds
We seek to discover planets beyond our solar system, to characterize planetary systems and their host stars, and to understand the implications of the abundance of potentially habitable planets for the possibility of life beyond Earth and the origins of our own solar system.

Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics
We embrace all scales and components of infectious disease biology. Our interdisciplinary approach, coupled with a dynamic viewpoint, provides insight into how to prevent or reduce infections.

Center for Nanoscalse Science (a MRSEC center)
We support collaborative, interdisciplinary research efforts in the area of nanoscale materials.

Center for Space Research Programs

Methodology Center
We are an internationally recognized leader in the development and dissemination of methods for experimental design and data analysis in the social, health, and behavioral sciences.

The Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium (PSGC)
As a component of NASA’s National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, we develop and promote opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research and discovery, including student flight projects. Include programs with a focus on enhancing the participation of students from underrepresented groups.

Pennsylvania Water Resources Research Center
We emphasize the role of University research, education, and outreach in advancing problems related to water quality and quantity.
