Graduation and Commencement

Main Content

The spring 2019 commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2019, in the Bryce Jordan Center. The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes and include remarks by our speaker, Dr. Freeman Harbowski, the conferring of degrees, individual recognition of each graduate while crossing the stage, and a welcome into the Penn State Alumni Association.

Declare Intent to Graduate

It is the graduating student's responsibility to notify the University of his or her intent to graduate. This should be done by using the Graduating This Semester LionPATH application at the beginning of the semester the student plans to graduate.

If you have missed the deadline to apply for graduation during the activation period in LionPATH, please contact your adviser or the undergraduate program office of your major.

Graduation Reminders for your final semester:

  1. Review your Academic Requirements report (Degree Audit) in the My Academics page in LionPATH to verify that your degree requirements are met or in progress.
  2. Consult your academic adviser with concerns or degree audit questions.
  3. Work with your instructors to clear up any deferred grades. Deferred grades will not count towards your degree.
  4. Be sure to address any registration holds. You can find hols in the communication center in LionPATH.
  5. Pay your Bursar bill. Students must have all charges paid to the University prior to graduation.
  6. If you are transferring credits to Penn State from another institution, please consult with your adviser in advance to make sure the courses are approved for transfer and will meet your remaining PSU degree requirements. Please remember that you must earn at least a C grade and provide an official transcript to PSU in order for the course to be added to your transcript. This must occur before the graduation approval deadline.

Eberly College of Science Commencement Policy

Commencement Coordinator
Lynne O'Cain

The commencement ceremony is an event that marks a major milestone for graduates and their families.

To preserve this tradition and the meaning of commencement as a celebration of the completion of the degree, Penn State Science has established this policy:

Only Penn State Science seniors who have completed all degree requirements for graduation and filed their intent to graduate are permitted to walk across the stage and have their names read at the commencement ceremony.

Spring 2019 graduating seniors (those in applied status in LionPATH) will receive an email that contains a link to the senior exit survey and details about where and when to pick up their commencement ceremony packet that includes their nomenclator (name) card.

IMPORTANT! You must bring your Nomenclator Card with you on the day of commencement!

If you happen to lose your nomenclator card, an extra card will be available at the registration table on the day of commencement.

Spring 2019 Commencement Ceremony Instructions:

Graduates should plan to arrive NO LATER than 8:30 am. Enter Gate B or C of the BJC. Once in the building, enter the arena floor via Portal 15. There is no rehearsal for the ceremony!

Seating for graduates on the event level of the Jordan Center is by department or major (not alphabetical). Graduate seating charts can be found at the back of your program upon arrival at the ceremony venue. Graduates are called by name to process across the commencement stage according to academic department.

It is the expectation that all students will remain on the floor until the conclusion of the ceremony out of respect for the importance and dignity of this occasion. Early departures are disruptive to other graduates and their families. Remaining to share equally in every graduate's moment says much about who we are as a community of Penn Staters, and is a true demonstration of "WE ARE...PENN STATE."

Additional information and instructions about the spring commencement ceremony can be found at commencement.psu.edu.
