Title:  HETDEX Survey: Early Science Highlights and How You Can Get in on the Fun!

Abstract: The Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) is an untargeted, wide-sky, spectroscopic survey aimed to measure the Hubble expansion parameter and angular diameter distance at 1.88<z<3.52 by measuring the clustering of over one million Lyman Alpha Emitting galaxies (LAEs). Designed to hunt for high-redshift LAEs, the Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrograph (VIRUS) at the Hobby Eberly Telescope (HET) uses 78 IFUs, consisting of 33K fiber spectra, and its wide 22 arcmin field-of-view to discover 150 LAEs on average in each ~20 minute HETDEX observation. Ultimately, HETDEX will observe over 1 million LAEs, another 1 million z<0.5 line emitting galaxies and thousands of stars, nearby galaxies and active galactic nuclei. Observations are now 50% complete and HETDEX’s third internal data release (HDR3) is set for April 2022. This data and our internal catalogs are now accessible to everyone at Penn State as a partner institution in both HET and HETDEX. With HETDEX JupyterHub, access is easier than ever, allowing users to query our data model, extract spectra and make data cubes using tools familiar to python-based astropy users. In this talk, I will provide an overview of HETDEX and our first source catalog, some early science highlights and showcase how you can access HETDEX data.
