Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship

The WW Teaching Fellowship seeks to attract talented, committed individuals with backgrounds in the STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—into teaching in high-need secondary schools in Pennsylvania.

The Fellowship has also prepared over a thousand teachers in Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio. Eligible applicants include current undergraduates, recent college graduates, midcareer professionals, and retirees who have majored in, or have extensively studied, one or more of the STEM fields.

The Fellowship also works to change the way top teachers are prepared, partnering with colleges and universities that have agreed to provide Fellows with innovative, year-long classroom experiences, rigorous academic work, and ongoing mentoring.

THE FELLOWSHIP

The WW Pennsylvania Teaching Fellowship is looking for talented, committed individuals with backgrounds in the STEM fields to teach in high-need Pennsylvania secondary schools in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

The Teaching Fellowship includes:

  • admission to a master's degree program at one of three well-established partner universities
  • teacher certification in science or mathematics education
  • extensive preparation for teaching in a high-need urban or rural secondary school for one full year prior to becoming the teacher-of-record in a science or math classroom
  • a $32,000 stipend during their first year while completing the master’s degree
  • once Fellows are certified teachers (have completed their master’s degree), they obtain salaried employment in high-need schools
  • after graduation, Fellows commit to teaching in a high-need urban or rural secondary school for three years:
    • PA Fellows who attend the University of Pennsylvania and West Chester University must complete their Fellowship commitment in Foundation-approved public schools in the School District of Philadelphia (SDP)
    • PA Fellows who attend Duquesne University must complete their Fellowship commitment in Foundation-approved schools in Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) or the surrounding area
  • support and mentoring throughout the three-year teaching commitment
  • support of a cohort of WW Fellows passionate about science and math education
  • lifelong membership in a national network of WW Fellows who are intellectual leaders

CHANCE Romania 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Along with the University of Bucharest, U.S. Department of State, and Penn State Global Programs, the Penn State Lehigh Valley CHANCE program is offering a unique hands-on opportunity through its most transformative and engaging international short-term study abroad program to date, CHANCE Romania 2021. 

In this unique and groundbreaking binational course series, Penn State students will partner with students from the University of Bucharest, Romania via online and in the field formats to develop their skills in navigating complex, inter-disciplinary and global challenges related to water issues facing the Danube River.

Before leaving for Romania, students working in binational groups will partake in a mid-spring semester course which runs from March 15-April 30, 2021. In this course, they will identify, develop, and present a mini-research project related to a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). This is intended to give them practice with the skills they will need to successfully engage in a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) once they are on site in Romania.  Importantly, this course will be taught by both Penn State and University of Bucharest faculty.

From July 5-26, 2021 students will then work side-by-side leading scientists to carry out undergraduate research in the field and create opportunities to advocate for change with politicians, international agencies, and university leaders.

We will only be accepting 12 Penn State and 12 University of Bucharest students into this program. The cost of the entire two-course series (4.25 credits at the 400 level) is $1,200 and Global Programs is offering $1,000 scholarships for qualifies students. We have worked hard with our partners and donors to subsidize this program. Cost should not be a deterrent for any student to apply. What should drive a student to apply is a desire to learn about conservation and sustainability in a global context and to engage in rigorous and authentic undergraduate research focused on global environmental issues.

Our company, Forensic Fluids Laboratories, exists to improves lives, and in some cases, we save lives. We do this by partnering with our customers to provide education, information, data, and support in their work to better the lives of their donors or patients.

We are an oral fluid drug testing laboratory located in Kalamazoo, Michigan and have a rather unique position we need to fill (see attached posting). The person who would thrive in this role is one who

  • has a pharmacology or toxicology background and education
  • may wish to apply their toxicology or pharmacology knowledge outside the laboratory
  • enjoys a team driven environment and is naturally socially focused
  • is accommodating and helpful to others, harmonious and cooperative in working with others
  • accepts pressure and can switch from one item to the next as priorities change, juggling work loads
  • works best where conformity to rules, regulations, and established ways of performing work are important

Master's Degree Program in Forensic Toxicology and Forensic Biology

Here is information for students who may be interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in forensic toxicology or forensic biology.

About the MSFT and MSFB Programs: Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) in Philadelphia, PA, has established Professional Science Master's Degree programs in Forensic Toxicology (MSFT) and Forensic Biology (MSFB). These programs run in partnership between TJU and the CFSRE, and provide hands-on and practical career experience in the fields of forensic toxicology and forensic biology with an equal focus on the science and management/supervisory skills needed to be a leader in the forensic sciences. These 24-month MS programs remain in operation with in-person laboratory experiences conducted among a carefully managed and socially distanced environment. Students in our MSFT program receive hands-on training with advanced chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques critical to the modern practice of forensic toxicology, and students in our MSFB program receive hands-on training with electrophoretic and spectroscopic techniques critical to the modern practice of forensic biology. MSFT coursework in pharmacology, analytical toxicology, and interpretive toxicology prepare our students for exciting careers as forensic toxicologists and analytical scientists. MSFB coursework in serology/immunology, genetics, and human identification prepare our students for exciting careers as forensic biologists and molecular biologists. About the CFSRE: The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE) is a world renowned research, training, and education facility. The CFSRE occupies 10,000 square feet of laboratory and classroom space at its center in Willow Grove, PA. The facility has two classrooms which seat 24 persons each. The laboratory space includes 3,000 square feet of sample preparation and teaching space with modular laboratory furniture, which is allocated into separate 1,500 square foot areas for forensic biology/serology and forensic chemistry/toxicology. The instrument area is housed in a 2,500 square foot space that accommodates analytical instrumentation and benchtop equipment. The CFSRE’s advanced instrument lab contains several state-of-the-art instruments, as well as traditional instruments used for forensic testing, including three liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) systems, four liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) systems, six gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) systems, two genetic analyzers, a sequencing system, and more. All of these instruments can be used as part of our MSFT or MSFB programs through coursework, research, and/or clerkship.
