Research interests

The sessile nature of symbiotic corals has made them especially attuned to their light environment; their ability to use and sense light can change their behavior, physiology, and form. I am interested in understanding the molecular and biophysical mechanisms by which photoreceptor proteins operate, how they influence coral’s physiological processes, and how they evolved in the context of endosymbiosis.
