Members of the University community, along with prospective students and their parents, are invited to participate in the 18th annual Eberly College of Science Open-House day on Saturday, 31 March 2007, with activities beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration will be held at the new Life Sciences Building. Presentations and informal discussions with deans, faculty, advisors, staff, and current students will continue throughout the day at the Verne M. Willaman Gateway to the Sciences and at science buildings throughout the campus. Sessions will include tours of classrooms and research facilities in astronomy and astrophysics, biochemistry and molecular biology, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, forensic science, mathematics, microbiology, physics, premedicine, general science, statistics, and the Science BS/MBA Program.

Sessions about the Science Cooperative Education program and the Study Abroad program will offer students information about enriching experiences outside the classroom. There also will be an opportunity for prospective students to interact with current students to get a glimpse of the first-year experience and the transition to university life from both an academic and social perspective. Campus tours will be available at the end of the day.

Approximately 3,000 high-school seniors who have been offered admission to the Eberly College of Science at all Penn State campuses for the 2007 summer and fall semesters have been invited to attend. The event, which gives all students who have received an offer of admission to the college a final opportunity to decide on whether they will accept their offer, has played a significant role in boosting admissions in the sciences at Penn State. The event also is open to high-school students who are just beginning their college search.
