Premedicine & Premedical-Medical

Main Content

The Premedicine Major provides a broad foundation necessary to the understanding of the basic subjects of modern medical studies. The Premedicine Major is an interdisciplinary program, which means that in addition to getting the required premedicine courses, students can mix and match other course selections from various departments throughout the university to best meet specific long term goals. While this major can be used by students pursuing careers in a number of health professions, it is primarily designed for medical school preparation.

Generally, about 80% of all Penn State students accepted to medical school have majored somewhere in the Eberly College of Science. The two most popular bachelor of science majors are Premedicine and Biology, but there are always other students majoring in General Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
