Event Series:

Pulsars are compact, rapidly rotating stars born in supernova explosions. These exotic objects act like cosmic lighthouses, emitting a pulse of radio waves with each rotation. Their extremely regular rotation means that they can be used to keep time incredibly precisely, on par with atomic clocks on earth!  In this talk, I will describe the properties of these fascinating objects and discuss some of their applications, including searching for gravitational waves, testing general relativity, weighing stars, and even space navigation.
