Graduation and Commencement

Main Content

The Spring 2016 undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 9:00 am, in the Bryce Jordan Center.

At the beginning of the semester in which you plan to graduate, you must indicate your intent to graduate during the Intent to Graduate Period Activation Period.  Before you can be certified for graduation, it is your responsibility to ensure that all degree requirements have been met and it is a good idea to meet with your academic adviser while readying for graduation.

Graduation Procedures

Follow these steps to ensure you will complete your degree:

  1. Review your "Degree Audit" in eLion to verify that your degree requirements are in progress. When you are eligible to graduate, the following statement should appear on the audit: "ALL REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN MET OR ARE IN PROGRESS."
  2. Consult your academic adviser with concerns or degree audit questions.
  3. Notify the university of your intent to graduate.

Learn more about graduation procedures in the University Undergraduate Advising Handbook and the University Registrar.

The commencement ceremony is an event that marks a major milestone for graduates and their families.

To preserve this tradition and the meaning of commencement as a celebration of the completion of the degree, Penn State Science has established this policy:

Only Penn State Science seniors who have completed all degree requirements for graduation and filed their intent to graduate are permitted to walk across the stage and have their names read at the commencement ceremony.

Information about the spring 2016 commencement ceremony will be available for graduates to pick up beginning April 5, 2016. Graduates are REQUIRED to complete a Senior Survey in order to receive their packet.

An email from the Commencement Coordinator with detailed instructions about when and where to pick up your graduation packet will be sent to all graduating seniors at the end of March. The graduation packet includes important information about the Commencement Ceremony and also contains your nomenclator (name) card. Your name card is your ticket to the event floor and is needed for you to be able to cross the stage and have your name announced.

Additional information for graduates can be found on the Office of Strategic Communications's commencement website.

Congratulations to the Spring 2016 Student Marshals
