The R.O.S.E. program is a unique undergraduate summer research internship program with the added advantage of early admission to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The program offers high ability, pre-medical college students the opportunity to learn about medicine by actively participating in Research, Observation, Service, and Education experiences coordinated by the College of Medicine. ROSE students spend 8-10 weeks for two consecutive summers at the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center. During the summer internships, students integrate experiences in biomedical or clinical research, observation of practitioners, service, and education. ROSE students are provided an early assurance acceptance to the College of Medicine, contingent on meeting academic and MCAT requirements. Students must earn an AMCAS-calculated cumulative GPA of 3.40 and a 3.45 BCPM GPA. In addition, they must score at least a 30 on the MCAT (minimum of 9 in each section).
Applying to R.O.S.E.
The ROSE application will be available online December 1, 2011--February 1, 2012. Applicants must complete the online application and submit a single packet of supplementary materials including two letters of recommendation, official college transcripts, and other official forms by February 1, 2012.
ROSE students excel in their academic and extracurricular pursuits and have demonstrated their interest in medicine through various related activities. This program is designed for sophomore and junior level college students. Students may attend any undergraduate institution in the United States, but must be residents of the state of Ohio or select Kentucky or Indiana counties (for a full list please visit our website). Only students who have successfully completed at least one year of college coursework as full-time, matriculated undergraduate students in a four year degree granting program will be considered. Students must also have taken or earned equivalent credit for an entire year of biology and general chemistry (with corresponding laboratories) and at least one semester/quarter of organic chemistry. Students must be willing to commit at least two summers to a research internship.
